Bio

Jane has always had a curious spirit and this was ultimately what led her away from her native, Clarksville roots and towards her love of Nature for college. She found a deep connection and reverence for forests, trees and natural denizens of the mountains of Asheville, NC while pursuing her BS; but her spiritual path really began while she spent several Summers as an apprentice to several shamans in the Peruvian Amazon. It was in the tropics that she began to view life through a holistic lens, combining Western Science with traditional teachings and applications of ancient wisdom. This would end up becoming a very prominent theme for her life.

After receiving her M.S. from Winthrop University in 2005, Jane was offered a teaching position at the same university. She loved to present and share knowledge with others, hoping to inspire and ignite a fire of passion for the content within her students. She returned back to her hometown of Clarksville in 2010 in order to be closer to family, and she continuing to teach Biology courses at Clarksville Academy and later at Austin Peay State University.

It wasn’t until 2012 that Jane found the practice of yoga. Following the recommendation of one of her close friends, they ventured to a studio named NBalance to try a class. This came at a time in Jane’s life that felt a lot like a rock bottom, and the practice slowly started to transform her- physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

In 2014, she enrolled in a 200 hour teacher training led by the owner of the studio, Beth Norris, who was a physical therapist and yogini. Jane had not desired to teach yoga, but she wanted to learn more about some of the deeper teachings that were not discussed in regular, public classes.

Just before completing her certificaiton, news spread of the studio closing in a few months. Ironically, it was the same friend that took her to her first class that broke the news, and Jane’s immediate response was, “Should I buy it?” NBalance had played such a pivotal role in her own healing and growth, that she could not stomach the thought of it not being around for others in the community. So she took a leap of faith, and has been at the helm ever since.

Jane combines her passions for teaching, Science, and Yoga into a path of service to others through NBalance Hot Yoga & Fitness. She skillfully, yet subtly, weaves threads of Western Science and traditional teachings into every class she leads. Profoundly dedicated to her craft, she’s logged over 1000 training hours, studying theories and practices from the Vedas, Hatha, Tantra, and Ayurveda. Seeking truth propels Jane as she brings knowledge and practice to a city where she has deep roots.

Highly trained and well-spoken, Jane combines her passions for teaching, Science, and Yoga, to offer a broad level of knowledge while navigating the deeper link between the mind, body, and soul. Remembering how it feels to be a beginner at yoga, Jane curates her teaching to challenge students of all levels. From her perspective, the best place to start is exactly where you are.

Armed with an easygoing personality and razor-sharp mind, it’s easy to understand why the classes she teaches tend to fill, often with a waiting list. A teacher of teachers, Jane’s encompassing knowledge of Yoga enables the authentic passage of the tradition from teacher to student.

“For the practice to be fruitful, there must be conscientious guidance,” she says. Leading by example, she shares her wisdom through embodied knowledge, and NBalance and the community within reflects her vision to create a place for students to learn and grow here.
