NBalance is Clarksville’s premier location offering Dry Salt Therapy, or Halotherapy, as an additional service. Our Salt Lounge accommodates up to 5 people in zero-gravity chairs and sessions are 45 minutes long. Advance reservations are required (no drop-ins), and clients must arrive 10 minutes prior to the session. No late entry is permitted.
For general respiratory hygiene and preventative care, 1-2 sessions a week is suggested to enhance lung capacity, boost the immune system, reduce stress, and aid in better sleep. Individuals with chronic symptoms are recommended to attend 2-3 times a week for a month or two to build resistance, and then following preventive measure frequencies moving forward.
How Does Halotherapy Work?
Halotherapy uses a machine called a halogenerator to grind Himalayan salt into microscopic particles which are then released into the air of our Salt Lounge. The dry salt aerosols can then be inhaled and penetrate deep into the lungs, or be absorbed directly by the skin.
Contraindications
Halotherapy is recognized as a safe and effective wellness practice for preventive and restorative health care. It is not a medical treatment and does not offer a cure. Halotherapy is not recommended for people with contagious diseases, fever, open wounds, lung cancer, severe hypertension, mental disorders and active tuberculosis. Women who are pregnant and anyone with serious health concerns should consult with their doctor before using halotherapy.
Benefits of Halotherapy
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
Healthy lungs and a clean respiratory system are essential for vitality, energy, and longevity. An average adult takes about 12-15 breaths per minute. The main function of the lungs is to deliver oxygen to our red blood cells and get rid of the CO2 from the body. In addition, our respiratory tract acts as a very important defense mechanism by filtering the air from pollutants and foreign substances, as well as regulating blood pH levels by managing carbon dioxide levels in the blood.
People who are affected by or exposed to pollutants, allergens, bacteria and other irritating factors on a regular basis may find relief by using dry salt therapy for cleansing and detoxing the lungs, as well as increasing lung capacity and oxygen intake.
As the salt aerosol travels in the room, the particles are inhaled into the respiratory system and naturally start absorbing allergens, toxins and foreign substances from the respiratory tract. Advocates claim that the anti-bacterial property of the salt helps it to dissolve bacteria, break up mucus and help move it and allergens/pollutants out of the respiratory tract; furthermore, the inhaled salt particulates may help to reduce inflammation in the airways, help widen the air passageways, and increase air flow. A clean respiratory system naturally results in higher oxygen intake, increased energy, and an improved immune system.
According to the Salt Therapy Association (STA), many people who undergo halotherapy as a complementary treatment on a regular basis may find relief from a variety of respiratory conditions such as: allergies, asthma, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, COPD and others.
SKIN AILMENTS
Our skin is the largest organ of our body and it is very complex. Since it is in direct contact with our external environment, it provides a first-line of defense against environmental conditions and microbes; but it also regulates our temperature and prevents dehydration by controlling levels of perspiration.
When dry salt is absorbed by the skin it absorbs impurities but also act as an anti-bacterial agent, which could benefit some skin irritations such as acne, psoriasis and eczema. Dry salt also increases the activity of skin cell ion channels and activates electrophysiological activity that determines the skin’s protective properties. The salt provides pH normalization the microcirculation of the skin, which induces reparative and regenerative processes of the skin, increases skin rigidity, stimulates growth, and improves hair health.
MOOD AND SLEEP
Salt contains negatively charged ions that can leave you feeling invigorated, positive, and stress-free. Inhaling dry salt may also help to normalize serotonin levels in the body, which not only act as mood elevators but that can also help to improve sleep.
