Bio
With her cultivated sense of detail, high-level understanding of how the human body works, and unique ability to uplift and motivate with words and presence, Sara Jane has the capacity to turn a yoga class into a transformational experience. By the end of her first yoga practice in 2005, SJ knew her future included becoming a yoga teacher and the path began to unfold. “I became a yoga teacher so I could teach myself yoga,” she says. Fifteen years ago, she began teaching yoga to a small group of friends and earned her first teaching certificate two years later. In 2012, she completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training immersion at an ashram in Colorado, which pivoted both her practice and teaching with the introduction of meditation and the spiritual practice of yoga.
As Sara Jane continued to practice yoga, she began to accumulate injuries, leading her to take a more safety-driven, alignment focused, and foundational approach to teaching. During class, she guides students safely through practice with precise cuing and offers creative prop use or alternative shapes to individual students when needed. In some classes – and always with permission from the student – she offers hands-on assists and adjustments to further inform students how to refine from the foundation.
Sara Jane’s teaching influences include Kino Macgregor, BKS Iyengar, Manju Jois, Gillian St. Clair, and David Regelin. Over the years, SJ has accumulated training in the art of teaching yoga, as well as Yin and Restorative yoga, Ashtanga vinyasa, pranayama, and meditation. She’s a skilled Reiki Master and Advanced Crystal Master, as well as an amateur acrobat with thousands of hours of partner acrobatic practice and teacher training.
